The correct answer is that reservists are eligible for Special Duty Assignment Pay only if they are on active duty. This means that while reservists generally do not receive this pay while in a traditional reserve status, those who are called to active duty can qualify for Special Duty Assignment Pay based on their roles and specific responsibilities they perform during that time.

This provision acknowledges the unique circumstances under which reservists serve when activated and recognizes the additional duties they may undertake in support of military operations. It's essential for reservists to understand that their eligibility for such pay hinges on their active status rather than their reservist status alone.

Other choices are not accurate because they either suggest that reservists as a whole are ineligible regardless of their active status or imply that all reservists automatically receive Special Duty Assignment Pay which does not align with the actual regulations governing this type of pay. Further, the idea that it applies only to specific roles needs clarification as it is contingent on the active duty activation rather than the specific roles held in reserve. Thus, understanding the impact of active duty is crucial for the accurate assessment of pay eligibility for reservists.
